Ayahuasca Retreat in Brazil: July 29 to August 5, 2026

4 ceremonies with the great sacred medicine of the forest, Ayahuasca

From Wednesday, July 29 to Wednesday, August 5, 2026 , in the heart of nature, near Rio de Janeiro.

Join us in the lush nature of Brazil for a week of transformation and healing

We invite you to a psychospiritual development retreat in the heart of Brazil, in a place of lush and preserved nature, a retreat center located in a peaceful region far from the hustle and bustle of the capital, 2.5 hours from Rio International Airport.

During these seven days, we offer you a deep inner work with Ayahuasca, a sacred medicine from the Amazon rainforest, used for centuries for healing, self-knowledge and communion with life and the universe.

What is Ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca is the name given to an ancient brew prepared from two sacred plants: the bark of the Caapi vine and the leaves of the Chacruna plant. It is very powerful and has been used for millennia in South American countries during traditional healing rituals and to deepen the spiritual connection with the Earth and the Universe.

Today, working with ayahuasca is often distorted. It's now possible to consume it almost anywhere, in large groups where supervision is minimal and often defective. This practice also remains illegal in most countries. Furthermore, many people seek a kind of "trip" with ayahuasca, which profoundly diminishes its meaning by turning it into a tourist and recreational experience.

An ayahuasca ceremony, experienced in a suitable setting and with proper preparation, is a profoundly sacred experience of unimaginable intensity. In our opinion, it is worthwhile to dedicate at least a full week to it, to delve deeper and experience a profound and comprehensive journey, rather than settling for a single, isolated weekend session, where ayahuasca is often offered alongside other substances.

In Brazil, the use of Ayahuasca is legal within the framework of spiritual research and development. Our retreat is fully in keeping with this respectful tradition, offering you a space for inner exploration, awareness, and spiritual transformation, supported by rigorous ethics and expert guidance.

What is an Ayahuasca ceremony ?

An Ayahuasca ceremony is an ancestral ritual of healing and consciousness, originating from Amazonian traditions. It revolves around a sacred brew prepared from the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and Chacruna leaves, without any additives.

Traditionally, the shaman leads the ceremony through his songs and healing power, working energetically on the participants.

Our approach is different: it is part of a psychospiritual and contemporary vision, where everyone is invited to become an active participant in their own healing.

We support you in mobilizing your inner sovereignty, recognizing your needs, your emotions, your wounds, and experiencing the alliance of your own resources with the intelligence of medicine.

During the retreat, we will experience four ceremonies:

  • Three nocturnal ceremonies, in the silence and depth of the night, conducive to introspection and the traversal of inner spaces.

  • A daytime ceremony, in the heart of nature, to connect with the light, the earth and the wisdom of life.

Each ceremony is a safe and sacred space, supported by presence, music, and attentive listening.

This is a time of openness, integration and transformation — not to seek to flee what is, but to encounter what is asking to be seen, loved and healed.

Spiritual development workshops,

This retreat is carefully structured so that every part of the program contributes to your spiritual growth and helps you identify and manage your emotional and energetic blockages. A combination of teachings and powerful healing methods will be offered throughout the week to allow you to fully understand and integrate the teachings received during the ayahuasca ceremonies.

Some themes that will be experienced during the ayahuasca ceremonies and that we will address during the week:

  • How to discern the different levels of spiritual frequencies and work with them

  • How to welcome and release ancestors and other entities from the invisible world

  • How to recover soul fragments

  • Clearing karmic connections

  • Dissolution of pacts and energetic attachments

Nutrition during the retreat

We recommend adopting a healthy lifestyle on a daily basis, but during the retreat, some additional restrictions apply to working with ayahuasca.

Why follow a specific diet during an ayahuasca retreat?

When you come into contact with ayahuasca, you will notice that your diet (and your lifestyle choices in general) profoundly influence the quality and value of your experience on Earth.

Therefore, harmonizing your diet with your intention and goals for the retreat is essential: the healthier and “purer” your body and mind are, the easier it is to fully receive the teachings and benefits that the plant wishes to transmit to you.

That's why, during this retreat, you will follow this special diet, optimized to support the ceremonies. The diet will therefore be ovo-vegetarian, with restrictions on salt, sugar, strong spices, and other foods incompatible with ayahuasca, such as fermented foods.

The dietary recommendations also extend to a period before and after retirement, in order to ensure adequate preparation for the diet and to enhance the intensity and benefits of the experience.

This framework will allow you to go further in your experience with ayahuasca and to implement lasting transformations in your life.

What this retreat can bring

Working with Ayahuasca in a spiritual, respectful and professional setting can open the way to a profound transformation that affects all dimensions of being:

  • An expanded understanding of oneself and one's life , by accessing greater levels of consciousness.

  • The acceptance of buried suffering or long-repressed emotions, which need to be recognized, worked through and transformed.

  • The highlighting of operating modes, relational patterns or limiting beliefs which maintain repetition or closure.

  • A reconnection to the body, the heart and the spiritual dimension of existence , in a feeling of unity with life.

  • A conscious crossing of the shadow , not as a fall, but as a passage towards more clarity, compassion and inner freedom.

  • A potential for liberation and healing , allowing a new alignment between what we are, what we feel and what we experience.

  • A deep integration of experience into daily life: clearer choices, fairer relationships, more grounded presence.

Ayahuasca is not only an expansive experience; it acts as a living mirror, revealing both light and shadow, so that whatever seeks healing can finally be.

La Renaissance Psychédéliques Q&A

Questions and Answers

Is it safe to travel to Brazil, particularly to Rio de Janeiro?

Brazil is a major tourist destination, warm and welcoming, visited each year by millions of travelers from around the world. Rio de Janeiro, with its natural beauty and vibrant energy, is among the 25 destinations to discover in 2026 according to National Geographic. As in any major metropolis, a few simple precautions are all it takes to have a pleasant and safe stay, whether you're visiting Rio before or after our retreat. For example, avoid walking alone at night in deserted or poorly lit areas, and don't wear valuables in plain sight (jewelry, watches, phones, cameras). Petty theft does occur, especially on beaches and in tourist areas. We also advise against entering the favelas, even with guided tours. These areas are sometimes unstable and can present real risks.

Do I need a visa to come to Brazil?

Citizens of the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Japan do not need a visa for tourist stays of less than 90 days. Citizens of Australia, Canada, and the United States must apply for an electronic e-Visa, which can be easily obtained online. Entry requirements may change and vary depending on individual circumstances. Therefore, it is important to check official information with the Brazilian consulate or embassy in your country before your departure to ensure that the requirements are up-to-date and applicable to your specific situation.

Lightweight and comfortable clothing, a hat or cap, a swimsuit, a raincoat, a flashlight, flip-flops, a notebook, natural insect repellent, and light-colored clothing for ceremonies. The center provides mosquito nets, bedding, and full vegetarian meals.

Is this retreat a form of therapy?

No. This is not a psychotherapy retreat, but a psychospiritual journey. We work with respect for the sacred and for consciousness, with professional guidance, but without a medical or therapeutic aim in the clinical sense.

Which medications are incompatible with Ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca is not compatible with SSRI antidepressants (such as Prozac, Zoloft, Sertraline, etc.) or certain MAOIs or psychotropic medications. These treatments must be discontinued under medical supervision several weeks before the retreat. Certain physical or psychological conditions may also require special attention. All necessary questions on this subject will be asked in the pre-registration questionnaire and then discussed in more detail during your individual interview with Marc-Henri. This allows us to guarantee a safe, respectful environment that is fully adapted to each participant. If you are currently taking medication, never stop taking any medication without consulting your doctor.

What can I expect physically during an Ayahuasca ceremony?

The effects of Ayahuasca can sometimes be physical, especially at certain points in the ceremony—this is even one of the strengths of this medicine. That said, there are also people who experience none of these symptoms. One may experience various bodily sensations, changes in body perception, waves of heat or cold, and sometimes tremors or chills. Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea are part of the traditional purging process: they are often experienced as a deep inner cleansing, a release of accumulated emotions and energies from the body. Again, there are also people who experience no purging symptoms at all.

Is the retreat location safe?

Yes, the retreat center is a peaceful, secluded, and secure location, about 2.5 hours from Rio de Janeiro, far from the hustle and bustle of the city and major roads. It's a private, fenced property, inhabited year-round, surrounded by nature—forests, hills, and streams—and managed by its founder, who lives on-site. The atmosphere is nurturing and welcoming: everything is designed to offer a safe, calm, and harmonious space, conducive to relaxation, trust, and inner work. The nights are silent, nature abundant, and the local community supportive. You will feel completely at peace, safe, and supported on your journey.

Are there any specific health requirements?

No vaccinations are required to enter Brazil, except for travelers arriving from certain South American countries (yellow fever). Personal international travel insurance is mandatory to participate in this retreat. It must cover potential medical and repatriation expenses, as well as unforeseen travel events. We will ask you to provide a copy of your insurance policy before your arrival to finalize your participation. The tropical climate means the presence of mosquitoes that can sometimes transmit diseases, which is why it is important to protect yourself: use a strong insect repellent, wear light, long-sleeved clothing at dusk, and sleep under a mosquito net (these are provided on-site). These simple precautions will allow you to fully enjoy Brazilian nature in the best possible conditions.

Is Ayahuasca legal in Brazil?

Yes. The use of Ayahuasca is legal in Brazil within a spiritual and personal development framework. Our retreat is fully compliant with this framework, which has been recognized by Brazilian authorities for several decades.

What preparation is necessary before the retreat?

Preparation is an essential step in the process. It allows you to arrive at the retreat with your body, heart, and mind ready to receive the experience. In the weeks leading up to your departure, we encourage you to adopt a simple, natural diet, reduce your intake of stimulants (alcohol, coffee, sugar, screens), and cultivate an attitude of inner listening. Before the retreat, you will be asked to complete a personal questionnaire as part of the preparation and selection process. This questionnaire helps us better understand your background, your intentions, and your state of health. It is followed by a preliminary individual interview with Marc-Henri to ensure that this experience is right for you and to guide you in the most appropriate preparation. This approach guarantees that each participant arrives consciously, safely, and well-supported, ready to experience an authentic, profound, and fully integrated journey.

Is Ayahuasca for everyone?

No, because certain health conditions are not compatible with this type of medicine. For example: certain medications (particularly SSRIs/antidepressants, MAOIs, and other substances that affect serotonin), psychiatric disorders with a history of psychosis or manic episodes, cardiovascular disease or uncontrolled hypertension, seizure disorders/epilepsy, unstable diabetes, pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as certain kidney/liver conditions or glaucoma. These factors are based on current research guidelines and best practice guidelines. For your safety, all necessary questions are addressed during your registration in our preparation questionnaire and then during an individual interview; this allows us to confirm your eligibility or, if necessary, to refer you to another option.
